Ellis E. Pinkerton writes fiction from the road, literally. A long-haul OTR trucker by trade and a writer by calling, Ellis operates Inky Compass Haulage during the day and Inky Compass Press on the page. He is also a Christian, and that faith in Jesus Christ is central to his life, his vocation, and the work he makes.

His faith shapes how he understands suffering, endurance, mercy, judgment, beauty, and the long obedience required both in life and in craft. Baptism marked that faith publicly, but the deeper reality is daily: to belong to Christ, to walk in repentance, and to bring every part of life under His lordship, including the work made after the miles are done.

The road has shaped the writing in one way, and faith has shaped the writer in another. Long hauls through Appalachia, across the rust belt, and through hollow places where towns used to breathe have given the fiction its landscape, texture, and weather. Most of the work, especially the Atrament material, is not overtly theological in structure, though one project bears that weight more directly.

Ellis writes with the conviction that Christ is Lord over every part of life, and that storytelling, like any other labor, ought to be offered in truth, humility, and obedience. His work returns again and again to place, consequence, inheritance, memory, ruin, and the things that haunt both land and people.

Faith & Formation

Ellis is a baptized Christian, and his faith in Jesus Christ is central to both his life and his sense of vocation. He believes every part of life belongs under the lordship of Christ, including the miles traveled, the words written, and the stories entrusted to his care. His desire is to live and work in a way that serves the Kingdom of God faithfully.

That does not mean every novel is built as an overt theological argument. In most cases, especially within the Atrament material, faith is more deeply present in the man behind the work than in the visible machinery of the tale itself. One project or series may carry theological weight more directly, while much of the rest is shaped more by landscape, inheritance, dread, consequence, and the long memory of places.
